Starting Continent

Postby kuba » Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:06 pm

This is being forwarded from the snow textures thread, since really it should be a topic of it's own, and quite an important one at that.

Starting Continent
Here is a slightly modified map (credit to Thadius) with minor changes to help balance things out.
Image

Scale: Each unit (A1, B2, G4, etc) is 100x100. An entire section block should be 300x300, the max map size in the map maker.

Upload: Upload them to the FTP server in the /Mapping/Maps/ folder by using the location as the name. Ex's. A7.pvm, DEF345.pvm, etc.

Assignments:
(done) East Entrance + Dungeon design -- Sam1
(done) DEF123 -- Sam1
A5 of Rogue Forest -- Vitriol
B1,2:C1,2 (T2) -- Kuba
F7,8 -- Ender

Doi, noticed you cant really make out the the dungeon text all that well, basically there are 3 levels to the dungeon. The entrance level has lvl12-16 creeps, lvl2 has 15-18 creeps (maybe a lvl20 mini-boss before lvl3 entrance?), and lvl3 has 18-20 creeps (lvl25 boss?).

Please post thoughts, otherwise we should be good to go and can start assignment.

Which brings up this question-- exactly how can we go about working on 1 map? Will we be able to create our own maps and combine them? Will there be one "main" map? (ack, hope not)

Ah I skimmed over that topic, never saw someone had already starting picking locations. OK, so we got..

Sam1 working on the east entrance and dungeon.

Vitriol working on A5

I'll go ahead with B1-2 : C1-2 (Town 2 and perimeter)

Something like that would require php scripting and databasing and just too much work for a small project like PV..

But as of the current map editor I find it very hard to imagine how we can work in a collaborative effort in making maps. Here's why: (a) Those working on adjacent locations will need to be aware of the exact tiles the other maps cut off at (ex. water lines), (b) theirs no GOOD way of determining your location on the map, sure you can mark every 10 tiles but without being able to zoom out its still very hard to have a sense of location, and (c) Even if we *can* combine our maps, how will it work if we need to add 100x100 from one map into a map that's say 200x200 being that all maps are saved at 300x300?

I started working on B1 and realized just how much work (or "additional" work, rather) there would need to be, and how good our communication would have to be, in order to make these maps work.

heres a newb dungeon i made...

Image

the image is actualy turned 90 degrees, the entrance though is in the upper right hand, where theres a rectangle. the orange shaded areas are just dirt, while rest is stone. The blue area is gonna be rogues (ones worth some exp)
The green part is skeletons (rectangles being tombstones)
Red part are trolls, the blobs in trolls are just mounds /moutains w/e
then theirs the troll king in the branch off of trolls
Mp pool self explanatory
The shaded blue part is a walk through wall kind of secret chest room (1 wooden 1 iron maybe)
this is for lvl 1-8 ish

now the map isnt exactly to scale, the trolls area should be around the size that ej made the ds trolls, before barbs/ogres/skellies area in t2 ds...

graveyard should be decent size so one can lvl their with someone else...

troll king area would have harder trolls obviously

rogue area.... can be made bigger, im thinking like a 15-25 rogue spawn (spread out just alittle)
