All goes well!

Players (well, chairs really...hehe) can now walk around in the world together. Unfortunately, that's about all they can do, so here's what the tentative plan looks like now:
  • add chat
  • finished: give names to stuff in the world (no right-clicking at this point)
  • make a stupid video with some inanimate objects talking to each other and running around :)
  • code cleanup, fix a few nit-picky design problems
  • my next task-> add real, animated character meshes to the world (I'll use MDJs for now but the code needs some serious attention)
  • add some MONSTERS (and maybe NPCs) to the world. These will just be randomly generated and placed.
  • get the hp/mp bar, stats screen and status effects to work
  • add the spell system
  • add an items system? (this could come later)
Then after that, a series of map editor improvements:
  • Add the blending between dirt/grass and water/land
  • new map editor tool: define attributes. This will let you specify solid/semisolid/liquid areas.
  • new map editor tool: define monsters

No, the first real release will be much more--I have to buy server space to formally "release" anything, so I want it to be worth the money. There will be internal testing going on via a LAN in meantime, however, with people just walking around and talking.

I'd need shell access to a directory at least, and various port access...can that be had?

Sounds great! By the way--I had to install the Visual C++ 2005 express runtimes in order to get the server to run.

So here's what's up: the server is running! Hooray! But the ping time is...bad. It's like playing Xen during the delay. I'm going to see what my code can do about smoothing this out, but right now it's definitely not playable.

I think it might be the server, but this morning I tested it and everything ran beautifully. It must have been a high-bandwidth usage time (or maybe the server was running something else too, I'm not sure) but, in any case, it's fixed.

9am1: Well you could "play", but there's really nothing to do except slide your chair around with other chairs and talk to them...
