[LATEST] Evidyon 2.17 - Questing!

Postby Karl G. » Thu Jun 04, 2009 10:40 am

http://www.evidyon.com/download/install-evidyon.msi

If you're new, check out the basic instructions.

Triggering Quests
Right-click an NPC. Easy as that.

Your Quest Log
Right-click yourself to bring up the quest log. It will show you the amount of time remaining if the time is less than 24 hours. Clicking a quest brings up the description and allows you to give up.

Current Quests
There are 4 quests in the game right now. They are just for testing out the system; Beta will feature many more.

Even after uninstall, delete files, fresh download, install:
Every time I run the launcher, it downloads the 2 files; once that's done (or if I run evidyon.exe directly), when I click "Play Evidyon" the computer whirs for a while and nothing happens (but I can't click on anything): if I alt+tab, I see Evidyon in the taskbar and an error "failed to initialize" pops up (so it would seem that the Evidyon window is created and overlaid, but doesn't actually get drawn to the screen, so I only see change when I alt+tab).

Possible problems: on an unreliable network right now (in class :P)--I'll try again when I get home.

might this be retaliation of the config for tampering with it before to shut out audio?

I hope there isn't gonna be like a ton of lame quests -,-

What I mean is.. Don't put in like 500++ quests.. Just a few goodie ones.. Like hard and worth it, not a ton of lame and boring ones.. Which in most cases, is what quests are.

There should be a lot. Gives you a reason to hunt in different places and they could possible reset every 24 hours and send you to a new location.

1. You have Vista, and a fresh install puts Evidyon in a new place. Try moving it to somewhere else on your computer and running it there.
2. Try running windowed mode
3. Try turning sound off?

1. Installed it elsewhere.
2. Did: only difference is that I see the error right away (so it's an instant error).
3. My computer is shut down right now. Will try this once I boot it back up.

Disabling sound didn't fix it. Still the same behavior: when I run the launcher it downloads the large update file (every time), but when I click "Play Evidyon" the game crashes and I get an error window which says it "failed to initialize" and asks me to check the debug log for more info.

About to check things out now.

Edit: I'm also experiencing the same issue as Joe. Running Evidyon on Windows XP SP3. Will try to figure it out.
Edit: Tried playing the game in windowed mode. Also tried reinstalled in a new location. Same problem. Also tried on a newer laptop with Windows 7 RC1. Nothing changed, still getting the exact same errors and symptoms as Joe.

I think having a quest button is better than right-clicking on your character.

Huh, it seems like the game isn't copying over the file it downloaded. Go into your Evidyon directory and look for "evidyon.gme" and "~evidyon.gme". The second one (with the ~) is the new version it downloaded. Delete the old version and remove the ~ from the new version so that it is called the same thing. IF there are other files with a ~ in front (perhaps evidyon.exe?) change them as well.

I will also upload a new version of the installer with the latest game file, so if that doesn't work you can try with an updated install.

~evidyon.gme seems to be deleted automatically as soon as it finishes downloading.

Same. I'll try the updated installer once it has been uploaded.

I have uploaded a new version of the launcher that won't delete the ~ game file--you can get it at http://www.unseenstudios.com/evidyon/do ... uncher.exe

Replace your current one with this one and see if that helps.
