What format would 3d models for the game need to be in?

Any format is fine as long as there's a format specification out there somewhere so I can figure out how to load it. ".X" is easiest, though.

How simple/complex do the models need to be?

Are we talking like xenimus look-alikes or better?

Here's my first 3d model I've ever made by hand
Just a simple sword, not many polygons.

That looks pretty good! Actually, the models themselves should be quite simple--it's the texturing that really makes them look awesome. You've got a nice start already! For base textures, try here: http://www.mayang.com/textures/

I've never textured before either lol
Not the greatest looking sword in the world, but not bad for a first try.

*EDIT* Also smoothed out the model some.

my interpretation of a rapier (with mystic skin applied, if not applied well, I'm still working on my texturing)

Wow, you've been going crazy! The spirit mace looks a little funky. You might want to try texturing it differently.

Also, try to stay away from particle effects--just use transparency and texturing.

lol truthfully i think the spirit mace looks sick.. i like the graphix on the tip of it if you could just round it off more it'd look amazing.. also im nowhere near as good as thaddy or karl so im just going to try and throw in my 2cents here and there and make some donations as soon as i get paid.. =)

acid stuff generally looks like normal items and just has a puff of poison when you hit.

I don't think I can do armor at this stage in my modeling career (I just started modeling 4 days ago).

What should vis gladius and sun staff look like?

oh, make spiked versions of all your maces. Short/2H versions of all the swords, and some bows.
There could be short/compound/long versions of every type of bow.

Sun staff should be a golden(with small white curly stripes throughout) staff. Fairly plain. We can use shaders later on to make the staff glow and look very impressive.

Vis Gladius should look like the most wicked, powerful, terrifying weapon in the world. (thats what it is)

I'll probably have a friend of mine do Vis Gladius, he's a professional CAD designer and can make some wicked models.

I was thinking the Sun Staff should make the entire area glow golden. and only a wizard should be able to wield it, and it should change the holder's name to Corsix (only while they actually own the staff) and it should grant an extremely powerful spell. Like Solaris Nex or something.
