random timesaving tip for anyone else who wants to start a xen remake: it's probably in A minor. (Everything so far has been.)

Yeah I noticed that, but I made it a step down so it sounds a little different.

An update:

I've been a little sidetracked recently with writing GlovePIE scripts for the Wiimote, but I'm going to get back to doing some music tomorrow.

A question:

Will music be completely area based like in Xen, or is there the possibility of having some triggered music? I'm not suggesting something as extreme as in Oblivion where fight music occurs every time you run across an enemy, but it would be cool to have epic battle music trigger when a boss spawns (for example).

Triggered music shouldn't be a problem in the future, but for now it's just going to be area based.

Had a couple of pretty productive hours today. :)

The following are original compositions, but have some definite xen influences. I hesitate to call anything I do final yet, so I usually leave it in .mp3, but I was happy enough with Epic for now to save as an ogg.

A Simple Drone: http://poorserver.no-ip.org/ProjectVolu ... drone1.mp3

Notes: Created with PV's Teh 3x OSC in FL Studio 6

Epic (an intro): http://poorserver.no-ip.org/ProjectVolu ... /epic3.ogg

Notes: Created with EastWest's Symphonic Orchestra in FL Studio 6
midi, preset, and automation files available if anyone wants them

I also started on sound effects, and have 5 or 6 done right now. I'll probably wait till I get 10-15 and put them in a .rar before I upload these.

another update:

I got a few music majors I know interested in this, so hopefully they will pump out some good stuff and I'll be able to spend some more time on the 3D modeling side. By Tuesday I'm going to try and have a checklist of all the models needed for the mapmaker, with links to pictures of those individual models from various angles.

Viva la Volucris.

Hey Everyone,

Nice to be here. Ender told me about this place, and I have way too much free time,
so I might put a few things I'm writing up on here for your amusement, and possible
use. Here is a link to my first song, which I have aptly named Song1.
Hopefully there is more to come.

Enjoy

silvert- nice job i like it.

However the constant click-click background percussion thing might get annoying after hearing it looped more than once. Could we get a version without the background percussions?

Depending on the context it is used in I can see those percussion tracks either adding to the ambience or being slightly annoying. As a universal dungeon soundtrack it would be too much, but I think it would be great the way it is for an epic quest like Jeloc/Valenthra.

Kuba...

I'm inclined to disagree. I tried different combinations of removing some of the clicks, and it just ends up feeling empty. In fact, thats the reason I put them in in the first place. They were the last things I added, and it just brought the piece together. I also agree with Ender... its not going to be used for every dungeon/evil-sounding area, but should be used for one or two places. With the right area and used the correct amount, it is fine the way it is.

Starting on my next theme

Ahhh this is great! I can see what you guys mean about the percussion instruments, but I think they sound pretty good. How about using this for a main menu theme? I think it fits perfectly!

silvert--can you export as a .ogg file? I can put it in the game immediately.

In that case I guess I'll rewrite the intro I posted (Epic3.ogg) for use as jeloc/shrining music.

But for this inconvenience I will be kicking SilverT's bum in Budakai tonight on the Wii.

Here you go, song number two, aptly named...

Song3.ogg

(yes i can count, but song2.mp3 became a Zelda/Team America mix which would only be useful in my head, not for this game)

Let me know what you think!

This really makes me think of a wooded area for some reason. I like it.

Note that there won't be a ton of music areas in the game at the start. Although some can be featured on the website, etc, if you make a really awesome quality theme that will be very highly recognized :)

music... let me know and Ill see what I can do

Well a unifying theme for the game might be neat, but I was thinking a main menu theme.
