I can't get this fuckign file to download, can't you just make a direct download to a file to open it instead of all this unzipping and error messages.... I really want to make some maps but I dont want to fiddle around with all this crap.

Are maps saved in some kind of viewable format other than in the map editor such as jpg or something. Or could you add the ability to zoom in the stich program.

with a 543KB map of the entire continent, the map editor uses about 80% cpu and lags really bad
is this a polygon restriction?

Clown Mage: I can add the ability to generate a "preview" map, but the map stitch program only keeps track of whether or not there *is* something at the given coordinates, not necessarily what is there. The problem with zooming is that it requires SO much geometry. As soon as you have more than just ground at each location, (such as adding a model, for example) one can easily get millions of polygons by only doubling the viewable range.

Thadius -- this is because of the current implementation. Currently, all of the map information is stored in memory at the same time. This will definitely change; I have already developed a new way of storing maps that will let us have gigabyte-sized maps without any lag. It will have to wait until after the game is more complete, though, because I'm going to do a major tools update at that point. I'd rather have a game that works first so all of your awesome ideas can be put into place.

Update on the slowness with the map editor: I figured out what it was. The map editor was rebuilding all of the geometry for the whole world every time you clicked to add a new object. That's definitely stopped and now it only rebuilds what's necessary :)

very nice, any chance I could get a copy with that fix?
I did the long task of outlining the starting continent and then filling it in with dirt, and I got to the end and it started doing that =)

Thadius,

Although the fix is very minor, unfortunately I don't have the version you're working with to recompile it. I forgot to make a backup for the last release, and the one I'm using is currently all kinds of messed up. Being as I need a better idea of how the game is going to work (mechanics-wise) before I can work on the server, I'm going to try and get the next map editor out pronto with this fix.

Also, using the new editor, I just did something pretty sweet: check out the size of this map. It loaded in 25 seconds, and you can edit it very easily. Just for reference, this is a completely-filled 5000x5000 map; there are 25 million locations.

how large (in tiles) would you estimate the main xenimus map (just good quadrant) is?

you're right, it's about 1400-1500 tiles square

That's still a pretty sizeable amount of data, but what I had working was 12 times larger :)

Anyone help me please? I did every step on how to install the thing, and when I click Map Maker.exe, it makes a log text file, and then it automatically goes to error screen where it says Send or Don't send... Help please. I want to make maps, I have a good imagination! :P
