An Old New Look

Postby Karl G. » Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:49 pm

I've been tossing around the idea of revamping the GUI to make it darker and more ominous (and set the mood of the game better). Here are two version of the same screen, one with Xen text the other with normal text. What do you think?

I came up with a really easy way to display Xen text while in class today, so that will be what appears over peoples' heads in the next update.

Wow what a difference the text makes, definitely for the old school look!

I'm really liking the new one... is there a way to make the borders of the windows + the buttons a little bit more detailed though, instead of perfect boxes?

That's an awesome GUI and login screen.

With this new look, can the item model be placed to the right, in the same window as the item details?

Also... with this update of your GUI, are you going to allow items to add to the inventory/equipment as you pick them up/equip them? like xen...

This whole random item sort when you pick up items or equip them is a little annoying.

Edit: saw the HP/MP/EXP bar too... awesome lol

Personally I am not keen on the backgrounds used for the new-new screens, though it is still better then what we have now.

Pretty sure this has been fixed for the next update.

Looks very cool.
Just one thing, xenimus' fonts are kinda nostalgic but also horrible ugly. :p

I like the idea as a whole, but while the xen text takes me back... It almost seems a bit too big considering the length of item names?

Perhaps a "new" text that would combine the size of the regular text and some of the xen elements would be nice. I think a grungy feel is key.

This is 800x600, so when you play in fullscreen the font is a LOT smaller.
