Version 2.3 - Sunday February 1

Postby Karl G. » Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:59 pm

I rebalanced knights and sorcerers, and adjusted the difficulty of monsters in the world. Starting a character is tons more fun now, and mages actually have a chance :)

Fixes include:
- exp adjustment
- hp/mp adjustment
- spell strengths adjusted
- animation bugs resolved
- trees are solid now
- you shouldn't be able to pass through solid areas anymore
- rarer items drop a little more frequently
- some items look better! (still working on this)

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I think I'm approaching the "sweet spot" for leveling difficulty & fun, keeping things fluid but challenging. I played for almost an hour before releasing this thing

Craaap sorry guys, this download doesn't work. I included the wrong version of the client, of course!

I'm re-uploading, but my super slow connection will make this take 15 minutes or so...

Haven't completely explored yet, but are there any monsters harder than Monstrosities on this map? It seems a little small: crawlers, hounds and scorpions in the mountains, blade horrors, graveyard, monstrosities, trolls and sandhoppers. Haven't found any other areas of which to speak, though I've followed the coast line all the way around the island. Next up is an exploration of the mountain maze.

Dang, what level are you Joe? The monstrosities should be dealing pretty significant damage. Or do they not get close enough to hit you?

Spirits are harder than monstrosities though.

I'm playing a lvl 11 Sorcerer, Jezebel. The Monstrosities deal a pretty good amount of damage, but having 6 bronze rings, I've got more than enough HP and HP Regen to fight them off. It also doesn't help that the AI is exceedingly confused about certain things: when you train monsters w/ trans + velo, they'll end up standing in single file, so I just stand at the head of the file and gun them down one after the other w/ VFV, or I run circles around them while killing them all with Putesco (that works better for Trolls, as they're weaker, but also pretty well for Monstrosities).

I haven't yet found the second circle of columns, just the one by the graveyard. I keep getting lost in the mountains, so there could be a significant area tucked away somewhere and I'd have no way of knowing I was missing it.

Added: a Nocte Visus spell sure would be nice. Can hardly see anything at night.

And yeah, these guys:

This is what I was talking about: They get stuck like this and only the first one can attack.

I can't handle two Monstrosities attacking me at once, but if only one is attacking, it can't kill me on account of my HP Regen.

haha wow your HP regen must rock right now...those things are +50 HP +20 regen! they're a hold-over from when I was testing item attributes :P

Enjoy it while it lasts

And yes, monster AI is pretty dumb right now. I tried swapping in the old AI (which was a bit better) but it didn't seem to work...so now we have this. I'll try to improve it.

It's going to destroy my power when you fix those! Oh, well.
Maybe you'll add some other items or give some interesting attributes to existing ones to make up for it. :)

Anyway, I reached lvl12 and managed to kill a single spirit, which gave me something like 120xp, but the loot from which I couldn't pick up because it was stuck on one of the leafy barriers in the Monstrosity area (the Monstrosities regularly get stuck on these when they spawn, which can make for fish in a barrel for my range spells--actually, that's how I killed the spirit: picked it to death with ignis spells while it couldn't retaliate--probably couldn't kill one if it were free to fight back). I think I may have found every item in the game by now, but I'm probably missing a few (haven't found an aurelian belt or a bone belt, nor any gloves other than chain. Nor have I found an aurelian weapon, nor any rings other than bone and bronze).

There are at *least* 2-3 dozen items you haven't found yet. More once Michele gets around to creating some for the next update :)
- there is a full aurelian set of items
- there is an argent set
- there is a russet set
- bejeweled items
- crystalline items

+ a lot more that you probably won't find unless you hunt constantly for a week (1 in 100000 chance of finding or less)

Yikes! When you say "full set", what exactly do you mean? helm, armor, belt, gloves, rings, shield, weapon? If so, I haven't even found a complete bone set (gloves)! If we take gloves, rings, and belt out, I've found a complete bone and russet, though not yet aurelian (missing weapon), and none at all of the argent, bejeweled or crystalline items. Dang! I figured that Monstrosities and Spirits would drop the next set of items, but Monstrosities seem to be pretty lame on the drops, and Spirits are still out of my reach. Skeletons are still the best loot I've found. But I'll keep looking, out of a collector's curiosity. This is made more difficult by my re-creating of my character.

The ridiculousness of bronze rings (but don't change them! Not till I've lvld this guy! :) ):
