Evidyon Alpha 2 (through 2.6) Bugs and Issues

Version 2.5 (Feb. 15):

Currently being worked on: consumable items, sound

Bugs

  • There is nighttime, but no lighting
  • Animations sometimes make the character models twist or change in size
  • Monster idle animation is extremely slow
  • One is able to create a character without allocating any stat points.
  • Item descriptions don't refresh after equipping/unequipping to reflect what your mouse is currently over
  • "ESC" while in the Drop screen still logs the character out.
  • Putesco gets "stuck" and is can't be cast until another spell is used

Issues

  • inventory order not saved on Log-out/-in.
  • No consumable items
  • Stats screen could use some work
  • Sound currently disabled
  • Scrolling through lists is too slow and you must click in the box you wish to scroll through, not just hover
  • Monsters spawn on screen - can be annoying or get you swamped by them






Version 2.4 (Feb. 7):

Bugs

  • There is nighttime, but no lighting (a fix is on the way -Karl)
  • Animations sometimes make the character models twist or change in size
  • Monster idle animation is extremely slow
  • Trees have no collision detection - Fixed, but I forgot to recompile
  • You can not walk over the flowered tiles in the monstrosities area - Intentional. If it's a problem, let me know and I can change it (not a bug)
  • Sometimes I stay dead indefinitely, logging off seems to fix this. If you type -respawn you respawn dead and still can't get up. - Fixed for this update?
  • Sometimes I am unable to cast spells on my Knight, like I will hit the spell and choose and target but nothing happens. When this happens all I have to do is use slash and it works again. - Fixed for this update?
  • Creating a name with 32 characters crashes the server - Fixed thanks to Joe's epic bug-finding skills!
  • One is able to create a character without allocating any stat points.
  • Character name checking is not case sensitive, so I have both "Alpha Male" and "alpha male." With an all-caps font, of course, there's no way to tell these two apart in-game (even if caps are slightly larger, it's not noticeable).- Fixed for newly-created characters
  • If one tries a very long character name, when one clicks to continue, the program crashes- Fixed for next update
  • While scrolling through inventory, multiple item names will get highlighted and remain so.- Fixed for next update
  • Inventory strangeness: it appears that I can add more items of a certain type than I'm supposed to be able to, but no benefit is gained from the extra items. After Log-out/-in, items equipped are reduced to the limit, but it appears to be random which items are kept equipped and which ones revert to inventory.- Fixed for next update
  • While running/walking in a certain direction, if I try to cast a projectile spell in a different direction, it won't work: it goes along the path I'm moving.- Fixed for next update
  • Phantom items appear to be on the ground, but (of course) can't be picked up. Log-out/-in and they disappear.- Fixed for next update

  • Trees have no collision detection - Fixed for next update
  • Sometimes I stay dead indefinitely, logging off seems to fix this. If you type -respawn you respawn dead and still can't get up.
  • Sometimes I am unable to cast spells on my Knight, like I will hit the spell and choose and target but nothing happens. When this happens all I have to do is use slash and it works again.

Version 2.0:

Bugs

  • the lighting effect is really whacked out...sorry everyone, I forgot to disable this experiment when recompiling! - Karl
  • You can equip multiple items of the same class however it is only graphical, when you log off and back on only the last item you equipped will actually be equipped
  • Animations sometimes make the character models twist or change in size
  • Some monsters spawn and don't react to anything or move
  • You can not walk over the flowered tiles in the monstrosities area

  • Monsters spawn on screen - can be annoying or get you swamped by them




Initial release:

Bugs

  • Once a player logs off their helmet, shield and weapon stays in the position they logged off at - Fixed for next update
  • Projectile spells slightly off (technical term), they fire from the last place you click - Fixed for next update
  • You can equip multiple items of the same class however it is only graphical, when you log off and back on only the last item you equipped will actually be equipped
  • When you drop more then one item you can only pick up the first item you dropped - Fixed for next update
  • Equipping some weapons (Bronze Sword, Short Sword, Steel Sword, Steel falcion, Bronze falcion, Russet rapier) move your helmet to your arm. They are also invisible on the ground and in your hand if you have no helmet equipped - Fixed for next update
  • Animations sometimes make the character models twist or change in size
  • Russet aegis (shield) description is +0 armor - Fixed for next update
  • Some monsters spawn and don't react to anything or move
  • You can not walk over the flowered tiles in the monstrosities area
  • Monstrosities idle animation is very jittery - Fixed for next update
  • The graphic for items you drop on the ground stay there indefinitely
  • Bone mail turns you into one of the green swamp monsters - Fixed for next update
  • Monstrosities get stuck on the trees/flowers a lot
  • When the player logs off with bone mail on it leaves a naked clone on the map. - Fixed for next update

Issues

  • No stat screen implemented
  • No way to tell who players are (until a recompile?)
  • Pressing ESC while in the stat screen/drop screen etc logs you out

  • You can melee at the same time as casting spells - might be overpowered getting in extra hits/healing while attacking - Fixed for next update
  • There is a dip in the ground somewhere in the south scorpion nest, it is hardly visible in iso view and totally invisible in top down view - Fixed for next update
  • It's easy to get stuck in monsters/scenery - Fixed for next update
    • Please test to see if this can be abused! (getting inside of monsters/etc)
  • No way to change display mode
  • Auto-updater is disabled
  • HP regen is too high - Fixed for next update
  • Monsters spawn on screen - can be annoying or get you swamped by them

* No indication of EXP gain for my character, though as I can't see the stats screen I could be gaining without knowing.

working on the exp bug right now

edit: exp bug is fixed. new bugs:
  • getting teleported by casting a projectile spell
  • drop stack of items, not all picked up again
  • can appear to equip a ton of items
  • lighting disabled
  • floating items on logoff
  • no names displayed

all these swords glitch ur helmet into ur hand
are invis while in ur hand without a helmet
and are invis while on the ground

russet aegis (shield)
description is +0 armor

ok i have found two bugs
first of all when you drop gear on sq.
it disappears.
and second make a female char and
she is naked on the top end very funny.

Haha well she's not naked but her clothing is fairly light. I'll fix :P

this sometimes happens when u log off with bone mail on, leaves a naked clone.

I've had that problem, but without the bone mail. I was wearing some armor though (I think it was plate mail).

Movement is still very buggy... It still seems to be directive as before(which then causes you to walk away in funny directions if you lag out) and often when I cast spells and stuff I'm not in the place that I appear to be.. and well things jus get plain ol' weird from there.

Thats a problem with projectile spells. When you cast ignis or multi ignis your character is teleported to that spot and the balls emanate from the previous spot you clicked, however it does not update this graphically client side. Should be fixed for the next update though.

From a coding perspective, movement has absolutely nothing in common with the old method. The weirdness from spells is fixed for next update (it was a server issue), as is what I think is causing your problem with lag. The client optimizes your movement to smooth out jitter in the server's packet stream. One of the approximations makes you move slightly less than you should under big lag spikes, but that's been fixed.

Another thing that I changed for next update is that I prevent "glancing" collisions from registering: i.e. if you try to move past a creature, it fudges your collision circle a little. This has made movement significantly more intuitive.

The monstrosities animation is faster but it is still too slow and looks jittery.

Also, you didn't fix the hole in the southern scorpion nest. It just needs different colour walls or floor at the bottom.

I don't know what's up with the monstrosities idle animation. It looks great in the editor, but it freaks out in the game.

As for the pit, I fixed it but I added a few new layers in the map and didn't want to recompile, since I would have to reassign a bunch of stuff. I figured I'll just put it out in the next version (which has multiple maps!)

Downloaded and installed the latest update, logged on to find that my inventory had been erased.
The one other player I talked to in game hadn't had the same problem.
Of course, the update itself may have nothing to do with it. Any ideas, Karl?

Anybody else have this happen?

Not bugs (although bone mail will be changed in the future)

Woohoo, thats gonna be nice! Any idea whe the next update might be around...just curious. :)

I noticed this too, but I thought it was just me. If you can tell me what you were doing right before being unable to cast a spell, that would be extremely helpful.
